Patrick Ewing, the head coach of Georgetown University's basketball team, has spoken out about a burglary at his home several years ago. The incident resulted in the theft of two Olympic gold medals and a college basketball championship ring.
Among the stolen items were Ewing's gold medals from the 1992 'Dream Team' and his 1984 Olympic gold medal. He also lost his NCAA championship ring won with Georgetown.
However, Ewing was able to recover his college championship ring after it was put up for sale on eBay. He later obtained replacement gold medals after contacting USA Basketball director Jerry Colangelo.
"He took care of me," Ewing said of Colangelo. "He's a great guy."
"My house got broken into in New York at one point and they stole my medals," Ewing said.
Ewing believes his house was deliberately targeted for burglary due to his fame. "Sometimes it sucks to be well-known," he said.
As a renowned basketball player, Ewing played 17 seasons in the NBA, mostly for the New York Knicks, earning 11 All-Star selections.
