Kenya Records Highest Covid-19 Cases at 47, Two More Die

Kenya has recorded the highest number of positive Covid-19 cases at 47 over a 24-hour period, bringing the total number of cases to 582 as of Wednesday, May 6, 2020.

According to Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, two more patients had succumbed to the disease, raising the total number of fatalities to 26. The two patients passed away at their homes in Mombasa.

Out of the 47 new cases, 32 are from Mombasa, 11 from Nairobi, two from Busia, and one each in Kiambu and Kwale.

Majority of the cases in Mombasa and Nairobi were recorded in Old Town and Eastleigh areas.

Eight more patients have been discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries so far to 190.

Due to the increased number of cases in Eastleigh and Old Town Mombasa, the Ministry of Health and that of Interior and Coordination of National Government have directed that the areas be shut down.

There will be a cessation of movement in and out of the areas with effect from Wednesday, May 6, 2020, 7 PM for the next 15 days.

Markets, restaurants, and eateries within those areas will also be closed with effect from Wednesday, May 6, 2020 for 15 days.
