On April 27, the government gave restaurants the greenlight to reopen, but with strict measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

However, some individuals have been taking advantage of the new intervention, with Health Cabinet Secretary Kagwe revealing that people have been visiting restaurants to order food and drinks, only to move on to another restaurant to do the same.

'We are aware that people have been going to restaurants to order one sausage and two beers, then they move on to another restaurant to do the same,' Kagwe said during a media briefing on Tuesday.

The government had initially directed restaurants to only sell take-away food and shut down bars and clubs indefinitely on March 22.

Despite the measures in place, Kagwe warned that the government is alarmed by the surge in cases and is urging Kenyans to adhere to the directives to prevent the spread of the virus.

He also reiterated that the coronavirus situation in the country is far from being better, warning that the curve will continue to rise if Kenyans do not follow the guidelines.

At the same time, Kagwe warned Kenyans of flouting curfew rules, saying the government had noted some laxity.

'For some odd reasons, people have started believing that 7:30 is okay. You even find people jogging at 8. Then when we take measures against them, you start launching complains,' Kagwe said.
