Eastleigh and Mombasa's Old Town Under Lockdown for 15 Days

On Wednesday, May 6, 2020, the Kenyan government announced a 15-day lockdown on Eastleigh and Mombasa's Old Town in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus.

According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the lockdown will take effect from 7pm on the same day and will last for 15 days.

"There will be no movement into and out of the areas during this period," Kagwe said, adding that public transportation will also be restricted from accessing the areas.

Additionally, eateries in the affected areas will remain closed during the lockdown period.

The lockdown comes as Kenya records 47 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of cases to 581 people.

Of the new cases, 32 were from Mombasa, 11 from Nairobi, and 18 from the Old Town area.
