On May 6, 2020, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced a total lockdown of Eastleigh Town in Nairobi and Old Town in Mombasa for 15 days due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of the measures, all markets and eateries in the two regions will be closed for two weeks.

According to Kagwe, the lockdown will take effect from 7PM on the same day and will remain in place for 15 days.

Eastleigh and Old Town have been the most affected areas by the virus, with cases rising in the past three days.

The government had started mass testing of people in three areas last week, including Kawangware in Nairobi, apart from Eastleigh and Old Town.
