Published on May 6, 2020, the current floods in Kenya have claimed the lives of 194 people, with 100,000 others displaced.

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa warned that the situation could worsen if people ignore government directives to move to safer grounds.

Speaking during a floods update, Wamalwa described this year's floods as the worst Kenya has witnessed in years, urging those living in flood-prone areas to move to higher grounds.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter noted that a majority of Kenyan dams are now full to the brim, exposing those who live near them to danger.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i warned that those who will not heed the advisory to move to safer grounds will be moved by force to save lives.

Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that the ongoing rains will increase, exposing Kenyans in flood-prone areas to flooding and landslides.

Busia governor Sospeter Ojaamong has called on the national government and the donor community to find a lasting solution to the perennial floods in Budalang'i constituency.
