On March 30th, 2020, Prudential Life Assurance Kenya Limited made a significant announcement regarding its response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The company would be offering its customers cash benefits in addition to what is covered by their existing policies should they be diagnosed with COVID-19.

Under the new policy, customers who test positive for COVID-19 will be entitled to a lumpsum cash payment of Ksh10,000. Additionally, the company has waived pandemic exclusions from its policies, providing customers with greater protection.

Prudential Kenya has also introduced daily cash benefits for customers who are placed under mandatory quarantine in an approved government facility. They will receive Ksh2,500 per day, while those admitted to hospital as a result of COVID-19 will receive Ksh2,500 for every night spent in hospital. If a customer is then admitted to the ICU, they will be entitled to Ksh5,000 per night.

However, customers who self-quarantine at home or are directed by the government to do so will not be entitled to the cash benefits.

The extended cover benefits on all existing products became effective for Prudential customers from April 1, 2020.

According to Prudential Kenya CEO Raxit Soni, the company took the unprecedented step to cushion customers in this time of need. “As Kenya goes through this period of uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic, we remain committed to providing support and comfort to our customers,” said Mr Soni.

Prudential Africa CEO Matt Lilley also assured customers that the company would protect their health and wellness. “At Prudential we have been delivering promises for over 170 years. This time will be no different,” said Lilley. The measures we are announcing today will provide our customers with peace of mind.”
