On May 6, 2020, Estonian ride-sharing service Bolt announced the launch of its own electric scooter model, aiming to bring affordable and reliable urban transport services to millions of people in Europe and Africa.
Bolt, which has gained significant business from Uber in major African cities and Eastern Europe, boasts over 30 million users in more than 35 countries.
According to Dmitri Pivovarov, head of scooter business at Bolt, the company's lean mindset and efficient operations have enabled it to provide quick, affordable, and reliable urban transport services to millions of people.
The scooter's design and engineering focus on modularity, making it easily repairable and reducing maintenance costs for the ride-sharing service.
Bolt, founded in 2013, has raised over $200 million from investors, including Daimler and China's Didi Chuxing Technology Co.
With its expansion plans, Bolt aims to launch the scooter service in more than 45 cities this summer.
