Published on May 6, 2020, Jomvu MP Badi Twalib has strongly opposed Mombasa county government's plans to close down two subcounty health facilities in his constituency. The move, he claims, is a deliberate attempt by Governor Hassan Joho to undermine his constituency's health efforts.
Speaking during a ceremony where he presented a Sh10.5 million cheque to the National Hospital Insurance Fund, Badi warned that the county government's plans to close Jomvu and Miritini health facilities will not be allowed at any cost.
He accused Governor Joho of using the COVID-19 crisis to plan for his downfall, saying, “Don’t use the transfer of medics at two local facilities as an excuse in the war against the spread of the corona virus.”
Badi also criticized the county government for closing health centres in the outskirts of the city centre instead of opening more, saying it goes against the national government's idea of constructing more health facilities at the subcounty level to decongest constituency and county health facilities.
He refuted claims that his constituency has featured as a hot spot in the COVID-19 crisis, saying, “We are proud the constituency has been on the forefront in combating the lethal disease which lacks a cure.”
