On the eve of presidential and parliamentary elections in Burundi, the country's Attorney-General Sylvestre Nyandwi has called on politicians to avoid inciting violence, following a series of clashes between supporters of the governing party and those backing the opposition, some of which have involved machetes.

At least two people have been killed in recent days, and Human Rights Watch has accused the government of a systematic campaign of repression against the media and opposition.

Despite other countries in the region imposing restrictions on movement due to the coronavirus, large political rallies are taking place across Burundi.
