On May 6, 2020, Nairobi City Stars goalkeeper Levis Opiyo expressed his team's confidence in earning promotion to the Kenyan Premier League.
According to Opiyo, City Stars' outstanding performance in the National Super League, where they garnered 43 points from 18 games, was a testament to their deserving promotion.
"There is no luck in our promotion, we deserved it because we had a very good season. We have been the best team in the league by far. We could even have won the league by a 10-point margin," Opiyo explained in an interview with Nation Sport.
City Stars' promotion was announced by FKF president Nick Mwendwa on Thursday, following a premature end to the local football season.
As the team prepares to return to the Kenyan Premier League, their owner, the Jonathan Jackson Foundation, has expressed its commitment to supporting the team's ambitions.
"I look forward to a return to the premier league," said Opiyo, who has also set his sights on joining the national football team.
