Kenya Demands Probe After Somalia Plane Crash Kills Six

On Monday, a Kenyan private cargo plane crashed in the Bardale area of Somalia, killing all six people on board, including two crew members. The plane was undertaking a humanitarian mission from Baidoa to Bardale, some 300 kilometres northwest of Somalia's capital Mogadishu.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Uhuru Kenyatta thanked Somalia's President Mohamed Farmajo for his call and undertook to convey his condolences to the families of the deceased crew members.

President Kenyatta also welcomed President Farmajo's invitation to Kenya's Civil Aviation authorities to join the investigation into the crash, emphasizing the need to swiftly but thoroughly conclude the process.

Kenya's Foreign Ministry has called for a swift investigation into the crash, which occurred under unclear circumstances. The ministry expressed its deep shock and regret over the incident and offered condolences to the families of the deceased.

As the investigation into the crash continues, Kenya has urged Somalia to thoroughly and swiftly investigate the matter, as it impacts humanitarian operations at a time of highest need.

On May 6, 2020, President Farmajo called President Kenyatta to express his regret and convey condolences for the loss of life in the aircraft crash.
