Published on May 6, 2020, a devastating flood has struck the Bunyala Irrigation Scheme in Budalang'i constituency, leaving over 600 farmers with huge losses.

According to Edwin Manyonge, the scheme's manager, at least 1,300 acres of rice belonging to local farmers are currently underwater. The affected rice was due for harvesting before the calamity struck.

Among the affected farmers is Cornel Magero from Busagwa village, who had two acres of rice plantation at the flowering stage. He had invested Sh100,000 in the farm, expecting to reap big once he harvested his rice, but it has all gone down the drain.

The flooding was caused by water from River Nzoia and Lake Victoria back flow.
