According to the Economic Survey 2020, published on May 5, 2020, the education sector in Kenya has seen a notable increase in female employment, with the number of female employees growing to 281,000 in 2019 from 261,000 in 2018.
Other sectors, such as agriculture, forestry, and fishing, have also experienced growth, with 123,000 women employed in these sectors in 2019, up from 111,000 in 2018.
However, male employees still dominate all sectors of the economy, accounting for 64.5% of total wage employment in the modern sector in 2019.
Despite this, casual employment registered a growth of 6.0% in 2019, accounting for 23.4% of total wage employment.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC), the largest employer in the public sector, saw a 3.5% growth in employment in 2019.
County governments' employment level experienced the highest rise, at 6.4%, while employment in corporations controlled by government declined by 0.4% and that of parastatal bodies declined by 0.5% in 2019.
Annual average earnings grew by 8.1% to Sh 778,248.0 in 2019, translating to an average monthly earning of Sh 64,854.0.
