At least nine people have lost their lives in Turkana County over the past week due to floods, with the worst affected areas being River Kawalase and Lokichoggio.

According to County Commissioner Muthama Wambua, the deaths occurred in various parts of the county, including River Kawalase, Lokichoggio, Turkana South, and River Kerio.

On Sunday, a driver and his passenger died after attempting to cross the flooded river Kawalase, while another two suffered the same fate in river Lumenyenkirionkon in Lokichoggio Turkana West Sub County.

Area Officer Commanding Police Station Harrison Mulolwa attributed the deaths to the driver's reckless decision to underestimate the water level.

County Commissioner Wambua has urged drivers to exercise patience and wait whenever rivers flood, citing the dangers that these waters pose.
