On April 27th, Tecra Karanja, the daughter of Keroche Breweries CEO Tabitha Karanja, tragically died after falling from a staircase at a house she shared with her boyfriend Omar Lali in Lamu.

Published on May 5, 2020, Tecra's death led to the arrest of Omar Lali, a beach boy with whom she had a lavish and carefree life in Sheila town within Lamu island.

According to reports, the two met mid-last year and began a relationship. They were known for their expensive drinking sprees in the town.

On May 3, 2020, Omar Lali was arrested by homicide detectives over suspicions that he could have been involved in Tecra's death.

During the investigation, police discovered that Omar had given differing accounts of Tecra's death, leading them to believe he was hiding something.

On May 4, 2020, Lamu principal magistrate Allan Temba granted police a request to detain Omar for 21 days at the Lamu police station to enable them conduct comprehensive investigations into the suspected murder of Patricia Tecra Muigai.

Magistrate Temba stated, 'They are allowed to detain the suspect as long as they allow him access to legal advice from his advocates.'

During the 21-day period, the DCI will record witness statements, analyze the crime scene, conduct a post-mortem examination, and analyze Tecra's and Omar's phones, CCTV, and computers to collect additional evidence.
