Published on May 5, 2020, Kenya has confirmed 45 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections to 535.

According to Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, this is the highest number of COVID-19 cases recorded in Kenya in a single day.

The new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, with 29 cases from Nairobi, 11 from Mombasa, and 5 from Wajir. The five cases from Wajir have a history of recent travel to Mogadishu.

Of the new cases, 30 are male and 15 are female.

Meanwhile, nine people have been discharged from hospital, bringing the total number of people who have recovered from the deadly disease to 182.

Speaking on the new cases, Mr. Kagwe stated, 'The total number of those positive of COVID-19 stands at 535. This is because out of the 1,077 samples tested, some 45 have turned positive. This is the highest number recorded in 24 hours ever since the first case on March 12.'

He added, 'Out of this number, 29 are from Nairobi, 11 are from Mombasa while 5 are from Wajir. The five from Wajir have a history of recent travel to Mogadishu.'

Mr. Kagwe also warned that community transmission is happening within Nairobi, specifically within the area of Eastleigh, and urged for caution, emphasizing that no person is immune to the new disease.
