Africans in China Face Racial Attacks Amid COVID-19 Outbreak ¶
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread globally, Africans in China have been subjected to racial attacks and mistreatment, prompting an outpouring of solidarity from Kenyans and Africans worldwide.
On May 4, 2020, users took to Twitter to condemn the racial attacks using the hashtag #BlackChina, urging the Chinese government to treat Africans with respect.
Many Kenyans living in China have been kicked out of their houses and are now living on the streets, relying on well-wishers for food and basic necessities.
The Kenyan government responded to the situation by requesting the Chinese government to address the issue, stating that it had raised the complaint with Beijing and that China was working with local authorities in Guangzhou to safeguard all Kenyans there.
