Base Titanium Contributes KSh 80 Million to Kenya's COVID-19 Response

Published on May 5, 2020, Base Titanium, a leading mining company in Kwale, has made a significant contribution to Kenya's fight against COVID-19. The company has donated KSh 80 million (approximately USD 800,000) to various initiatives aimed at mitigating the impacts of the pandemic.

Base Titanium's General Manager for External Affairs, Mr. Simon Wall, emphasized the importance of the private sector's role in supporting the government's efforts to combat COVID-19. He stated, “We are proud of the partnerships we have formed with the Kwale County and national government in supporting efforts to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19. These are pressing times and Base Titanium believes it is essential for the private sector to play a supportive role with the government in minimizing COVID-19 spread.”

At the national level, Base Titanium is working with partners in the private sector to deliver essential medical equipment, including 192 high-flow oxygen ventilators, 100 N95 masks, 500 surgical masks, 25 litres of hand sanitizer, and 100 infrared thermometers. These donations will enable frontline officials to continue performing their duties safely.

Additionally, the company has partnered with Kwale County Governor Salim Mvurya to establish a food relief programme aimed at reaching over 50,000 community members. This initiative will provide vital support to vulnerable families affected by the pandemic.

At the community level, Base Titanium has donated over 15,000 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE), including masks and thermo-guns. The company has also established over 40 sanitation stations, providing essential services to the community.

Principal Secretary Ambassador Kaberia expressed gratitude for Base Titanium's partnership and support, stating, “We are grateful for the partnership and support by Base Titanium, they have proven over time that they are strong development partners for Kenya. The PPE we have received will enable the Ministry to continue working safely to minimize the impacts of the pandemic.”
