Police Officer Killed in Attack During Curfew in Kilifi County

On Sunday night, a police officer was killed in Rabai, Kilifi county, while enforcing the curfew imposed to curb the spread of Covid-19. The victim, Police Constable Kelvin Kiragu, was beheaded in the incident.

According to the police, Kiragu was patrolling the area with his colleague, Brian Mwadime, who survived the attack. Mwadime is helping the police with investigations.

The assailants also attacked a boda boda rider, who is recuperating at a local medical centre. The rider's passenger, Mwamuye Mwarungu, 29, was taken to Holani Medical Centre and is in stable condition.

The attackers made away with Kiragu's rifle and 20 rounds of ammunition. Officers who visited the scene said the officer had deep cuts on the head and body.

Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has issued a stern warning over attacks on police officers. The incident is the latest in a series of attacks on police officers in the region.
