On April 28, 2020, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) made a significant contribution to the fight against COVID-19 by donating Sh10 Million to the Kenya COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund.

As part of the government's appeal to individuals and corporates to assist in the fight against the virus, EPRA's donation will be utilized to support the government's efforts in the supply of medical facilities and equipment, as well as support for vulnerable communities.

According to President Uhuru Kenyatta, the COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund was set up to spearhead mobilization of resources for emergency response towards containing the spread and impact of the coronavirus.

EPRA's Director-General, Pavel Oimeke, expressed the Authority's commitment to supporting the nation's efforts in eradicating the pandemic, stating, “As a corporate citizen, we are delighted to contribute to our individual and collective effort as a nation in eradicating this pandemic. I believe that the Authority's contribution will bolster the Government's efforts in fighting the virus and will go a long way in ensuring necessities such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are provided to our health workers and food donations made to families and individuals who have been hit the hardest by the virus.”

It's worth noting that EPRA had already taken measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus by commencing online issuance of licenses earlier in the month, minimizing social interactions with customers while ensuring uninterrupted provision of services.
