Published on April 28, 2020, a Nairobi News report revealed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had arrested three individuals suspected of participating in the murder of Hanson Wafula Mukhengi in Kayole.
Maurice Otieno, Jackline Akinyi, and Eunice Awuor were taken into custody after they allegedly raised a false alarm, claiming Mukhengi was a thief who had been found inside Akinyi's house.
According to Inspector Fredrick Barasa Okello of the Kayole DCI offices, the three suspects will be held for two weeks to aid in investigations into Mukhengi's murder.
During a court hearing, Akinyi claimed that her child had informed her that someone had come to their house to steal their TV, prompting her to call her caretaker, who restrained Mukhengi.
However, Inspector Okello stated that he had not yet completed his investigations and required more time to record statements from witnesses, arrest additional suspects, and conduct a postmortem examination.
The suspects will remain at the Kayole Police Station until May 11, 2020, after Senior Resident Magistrate Steve Jalang'o granted the order.
