As the COVID-19 pandemic grips the United Kingdom, Crystal Palace has launched a vital initiative to feed vulnerable Londoners. The Premier League club has partnered with City Harvest London to deliver 900 meals a week to frontline healthcare workers and those in need.
According to the club, the meals will be delivered to doctors and nurses in the National Health Service (NHS), elderly and vulnerable people forced to stay at home, impoverished families, and the homeless. The initiative aims to provide support to those most affected by the pandemic.
Crystal Palace is funding all costs for ingredients, meal preparation, and packaging, while City Harvest London covers delivery expenses. This generous gesture is a testament to the club's commitment to giving back to the community.
"We are delighted that the club has asked us to help deliver this initiative along with City Harvest to provide meals to heroic NHS staff working on the frontline and to the most vulnerable members of our communities," Palace for Life Foundation CEO Mike Summers said in a statement.
"It is in keeping with the club's mission to be a force for good in South London," he added.
The service will continue for as long as possible and practical, with the United Kingdom's lockdown measures in place until at least May 7.
