On April 27, 2020, the government launched the Covid-19 innovation challenge to encourage Kenyans to come up with innovative solutions to combat the pandemic.
CS Joe Mucheru, the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication and Technology, announced a 500K top prize for the challenge winners.
However, Mucheru clarified that the prize money is not the end goal, stating, 'The 500K top prize for Covid-19 Challenge winners is a token as they will still be connected with others (govt or private sector) who will invest in their projects.'
