As the COVID-19 pandemic took hold in April 2020, the Mombasa Tea Auction saw a surge in demand, leading to a notable increase in prices.

According to the auction records, a total of 12.1 million kilograms of tea were offered for sale on April 21st and 22nd, 2020, a 15.4% increase from the same period in the previous year.

Of the tea offered, 11.6 million kilograms were sold, a 20.2% increase from the same period in the previous year.

The average price per kilogram rose to $2.12, up from $2.02 in the previous sale, a 5.4% increase.
