On Friday night, a severe storm hit Lake Victoria, causing a fishing boat to capsize near Kinda beach in Suba South constituency, resulting in the tragic death of a 25-year-old fisherman.

According to reports, the deceased, Vincent Otieno, was part of a group of four fishermen on the boat when it was hit by strong winds following heavy downpour in counties bordering the lake.

Three of the fishermen were rescued by fellow fishermen, but Otieno's body has not yet been retrieved from the lake due to challenging weather conditions.

Suba South Beach Management Unit chairperson William Onditi has launched a search operation to retrieve the body and has appealed to fishermen to avoid going to the lake during this time, as the meteorological department had issued an alert on heavy rains in the country.

Additionally, fishermen at Kiwa Island and Kitawa beach in Suba South are counting huge losses after 16 boats anchored at the lake shore were crashed by strong waves resulting from the heavy rains.
