On April 26, 2020, Kenya marked a significant milestone in its fight against Covid-19, surpassing the 100th mark for recovery cases. According to the Ministry of Health, the total number of recoveries in the country now stands at 106.
During the daily Covid-19 updates, Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Health, CAS Rashid Aman, confirmed 12 new positive cases, bringing the total to 355. Of the 12 new cases, eight were from Nairobi and four from Mombasa counties.
Notably, all the new cases were Kenyans, and three had a history of travel from neighboring Somalia. The number of deaths from the virus remains at 14 in the country.
Breaking down the distribution of cases within the Nairobi Metropolitan area, the cases were reported in Eastleigh, Kibra, Karen, Dandora, Kasarani, South B, and Umoja. In Mombasa, the cases were distributed in Mishomoroni, Mvita-Bondeni, Barsheba, and Mvita-Kuze.
Responding to the situation, CAS Rashid Aman announced that the National Emergency Response Committee has directed the testing of truck drivers to start immediately at border points. He also emphasized the need for County Governments to sensitize communities on prevention and control of Covid-19, and to disseminate information regarding proper nutrition as outlined in guidelines given.
