On April 24, 2020, police in Voi sub-county conducted a midnight sting operation that led to the arrest of three notorious burglars suspected of being behind a series of break-ins in business and residential houses.
A woman believed to be the mastermind of these thefts managed to evade the police dragnet.
County Police Commander Saidi Kiprotich led the operation, which was prompted by intelligence reports and follow-up leads after reports of mysterious break-ins in homes and businesses, especially at night when the curfew was being enforced.
After interrogating a suspect from Mombasa County, who was hiding in Sofia village, the police were led to another house in Tanzania village where assorted goods were hidden, and two more suspects were arrested as they tried to flee.
Among the recovered goods were gas cylinders, meat-roasting grills, flat-screen TVs, suitcases with clothes, a bicycle, music systems, alcoholic drinks, and woofers.
Commander Kiprotich urged members of the public whose houses have been broken into to report to the police station for verification of their property, bringing ownership documents to check if they can find whatever they lost.
