On April 25, 2020, Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta announced 7 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the country's total to 343.
According to the President, the government has tested over 17,000 people so far, with mass testing continuing.
Kenya's death toll from the virus remains at 14, while 98 people have recovered.
President Kenyatta expressed confidence that the country will be able to revive its economy once it succeeds in fighting the pandemic.
'We extend our appreciation to the health and security personnel standing at the forefront of the war against the coronavirus pandemic. While we mourn the 14 who have succumbed, we celebrate the 98 recoveries we have seen so far,' he said.
The President warned that the government would not delay escalating measures if the need arises, citing countries that opened up too quickly and are now suffering.
He also launched a National Hygiene Programme, which will commence on April 29 and run for 30 days, to help contain the spread of COVID-19.
Counties like Kwale, Kilifi, Nairobi, Mombasa, and Mandera have seen an increase in reported cases, prompting more stringent measures to be taken in consultation with county governments.
