On April 24, 2020, Nyamira county deputy governor Amos Nyaribo confirmed his entry into the 2022 governor's race, joining a growing list of hopefuls in the Nyamira county gubernatorial election.
He joins Gerald Orina, a former principal of Nyambaria National School, who has also thrown his hat into the ring. The two new entrants now join a long list of aspirants vying for the seat.
According to sources, Nyaribo's decision to run for governor has put his current boss, John Nyagarama, in a difficult position. It is alleged that Nyagarama had initially planned to oppose Nyaribo in the 2017 election, but was persuaded not to.
Others claim that Nyagarama had offered Nyaribo millions of shillings to relinquish his bid and become Nyagarama's running mate, a move that Nyagarama has not forgiven him for.
Nyaribo has been Nyagarama's deputy for two terms and had initially planned to run for governor in 2017, but was persuaded to deputise Nyagarama instead.
With the 2022 election just around the corner, Nyaribo has reaffirmed his commitment to running for governor, asking his supporters to remain calm as he plans for his victory.
