On April 24, 2020, the Lions Club of Kenya and Operation Eyesight Universal joined forces to support female-headed families and people living with disabilities in Trans Nzoia County, Kenya, in their fight against COVID-19.
As part of their efforts, the two organizations handed over 500 face masks and 500 hand sanitizers to local hospitals and vulnerable groups, including single mothers and people living with disabilities.
According to Dr. Hillary Rono, Director of Operation Eyesight Universal, the initiative aimed to remember vulnerable families and the disabled during the pandemic season.
"We have handed over 163-50 litre water tanks to the female headed families and the disabled, 500 surgical masks to local hospitals and 107 hand sanitizers to the vulnerable," Dr. Rono said.
Elizabeth Kibuya, Representative of the Lion Club of Kenya, added that the initiative targeted female-headed families and the disabled during the pandemic.
"We are distributing 500 face masks and 500 hand sanitizers to the bodaboda, female household heads and the disabled to help them fight COVID-19," she said.
Trans Nzoia County Commissioner, Samson Ojwang, urged the public to adhere to the rules and guidelines to help fight the spread of COVID-19.
"We call on more well-wishers to come on board to donate face masks and hand sanitizers to help stop the spread of the disease," he said.
