On April 24, 2020, Kenya Airways (KQ) launched a mass production of protective face masks for its crew and their families to combat the spread of Covid-19.
The airline aims to produce over 1,000 face masks daily from unused materials in its stores, according to Managing Director and CEO Allan Kilavuka.
‘Working with our different partners, we will identify the areas where the masks will be most needed to ensure we meet that gap,’ Kilavuka said.
The initiative is part of the airline's efforts to support the government's measures to contain the transmission of the infection in the country.
Under this initiative, workers will be deployed on a six-hour shift, producing 80 masks per day.
‘I applaud the Sustainability and Technical team for their efforts in making this possible. It is in unprecedented times like this when we need to think differently and our teams continue to demonstrate this even in the midst of adversity,’ Kilavuka added.
