On April 23, 2020, a postmortem conducted by chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor revealed that Blessed John Apewajoye, the husband of gospel musician Ruth Matete, died from complications resulting from 60 percent burns.
Dr. Oduor stated that the complications included sepsis and multiple organ failure.
However, Ruth Matete will not be able to bury her husband until the Nigerian government has given its consent, as the Nigerian High Commission has formally requested the DCI to hold the body until consent is given.
