On April 20, 2020, gospel artist Eko Dydda's wife, Cynthia Ayugi, sent out a plea for help after her husband was detained by the police under the guise of quarantine.
According to reports, Eko Dydda had left his house to get his ailing wife's medication but was unable to return before the curfew hours.
His wife's plea went viral, and the public rallied behind her, calling for Eko Dydda's release.
On April 23, 2020, Boniface Mwangi announced on Twitter that Eko Dydda had been released, thanking those who worked behind the scenes to ensure his release.
"Eko Dydda was released today. Thank you to everyone who worked behind the scenes to ensure he was released. Let's make it the norm, to call out injustices when they happen. To the good people in government who did the right thing, we appreciate you too," Boniface tweeted.
