On April 23, 2020, Kenya Airways rolled out an initiative to combat the COVID-19 pandemic by producing face masks from unused materials in its stores.
The airline's Chief Executive Officer, Allan Kilavuka, stated that the move was aimed at complementing government efforts in availing face masks, in line with health ministry guidelines requiring mandatory wearing of face masks in public places.
Kenya Airways will produce over 1,000 masks, with workers deployed on a six-hour shift each to produce 80 masks a day.
According to Kilavuka, the initiative embodies the KQ spirit, and the airline will continue playing its part in supporting the Government until the COVID-19 situation is fully under control.
