Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta has emphasized the government's efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, while ruling out a total lockdown.
Speaking to several radio stations on April 23, 2020, President Kenyatta stated that his government is working to ensure that Kenya does not resort to a total lockdown.
He noted that the government has allowed people to work from home, while those who must go to work are required to follow guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus.
President Kenyatta also highlighted the importance of food security, stating that the government has given farmers fertilizers to continue planting and has listed food transportation as an essential service.
He further announced a review of measures to curb the virus spread in Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale, with a view to introducing more stringent measures to enhance enforcement.
The government has also introduced a 21-day stop of movement into and out of Mandera, following the detection of eight Covid-19 cases in the area.
Kenya has reported 303 Covid-19 cases, with 14 confirmed deaths and 74 recoveries.
