Published on April 23, 2020, Kisumu Governor Prof. Peter Anyang Nyong'o is facing a lawsuit for contempt of court.
Former Kisumu County Attorney Amos William Omollo has taken the governor to court, alleging that he failed to reinstate him and pay his resultant salaries and benefits.
Omollo wants the governor, County Secretary Godfrey Kigochi, and Babu Karani, chairman of the county public service board, to be committed to civil jail for acting in contempt of an Employment and Labour Relations court order issued on October 11, 2019, and April 9, 2020, reinstating him as county Attorney.
According to Omollo, he is still an employee of the county government after Justice Mathews Nduma issued a temporary injunction compelling the respondents to reinstate his salary and benefits.
Omollo is seeking a court ruling that the three be committed to prison for six months and barred from addressing the court until they absolve themselves of the contempt.
Omollo's lawyer, Kibet, Adoli, and Magina advocates, say the respondents remain adamant despite various communications from the petitioner.
Omollo claims he has not been paid his salary and benefits for the months of February, March, and April 2020.
