Ken Walibora, a renowned author and journalist, was laid to rest in his home village of Bonde in Cherangany Constituency on April 22, 2020. The burial was a private affair, attended by only 15 family members and close friends, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Walibora's body had arrived in the afternoon, and the number of media personalities present was also restricted. His widow and two children, who are in the United States, were unable to attend the funeral due to travel bans imposed by the Kenyan government.
Walibora had spent nearly nine years in the United States between 2004 and 2013, where he pursued his Master's degree at Ohio State University and worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
He returned to Kenya in 2013 and took up a job as the Group Quality Manager, Swahili Media, at the Nation Media Group. In 2018, he moved to Riara University as a Senior Lecturer.
Walibora's death was met with an outpouring of tributes, with many mourning the loss of a talented writer and journalist. His body was found at Kenyatta National Hospital on Wednesday last week, and police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding his untimely demise.
