On April 22, 2020, Pacific Gas & Electric announced that its Chief Executive, Bill Johnson, would retire at the end of June after successfully navigating the company through its bankruptcy.

Johnson, a seasoned utility industry executive, joined PG&E in May 2019, shortly after the company was forced to seek bankruptcy protection due to billions of dollars in claims from wildfires sparked by its equipment.

"I joined PG&E to help get the company out of bankruptcy and stabilize operations. By the end of June, I expect that both of these goals will have been met," Johnson said in a statement.
