On April 22, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed journalists in a briefing, assuring that the Ministry of Education was working on a plan to facilitate a smooth return to class for learners.
“We appreciate the efforts of institutions helping to keep children safe. Our role is to ensure that children who are expected to sit for national exams this year will do so,” said President Uhuru Kenyatta.
However, the president expressed disappointment with Kenyans who failed to adhere to measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, urging them to reconsider their actions, especially considering the impact on businesses.
“We have a challenge, and it will not be overcome by one person or the government alone. I am concerned about those who are going against the rules and refusing to follow the measures that will help us overcome this pandemic quickly and return to our normal lives,” President Uhuru Kenyatta stated.
On Monday, about 50 Kenyans escaped from quarantine at the Kenya Medical Training College along Mbagathi, prompting the president to warn that they would be arrested and made to complete their quarantine.
The National Treasury had proposed a freeze on all development projects to divert funds towards the fight against COVID-19, affecting big four agenda projects under President Uhuru Kenyatta.
