On the day of a fundraiser in memory of her late brother Tom, Caley Robinson's home was broken into and left in a state of utter destruction.
Her former best friend Katie Morrison, 32, and her accomplices, brother Christopher and boyfriend David Rodericks, had struck while Caley was out.
Police had no valid forensic evidence, as Katie had previously lived with Caley and Rodericks knew his victim, making it impossible to link them to the crime scene.
However, Caley was suspicious of their alibis and began her own investigation, quizzing neighbours and uncovering a paper trail that eventually led to the trio's conviction.
Through her tireless efforts, Caley proved that Katie had been behind the break-in and had also conned her out of thousands of pounds.
After a two-year ordeal, Katie, Christopher, and Rodericks were finally brought to justice, with the latter being ordered to repay £6,000 to Caley as part of a civil court case.
They were also given 12 months of community service and ordered to pay Caley £1,550 compensation each.
