On Tuesday night, the DCI posted an arrest warrant for blogger Cyprian Nyakundi on their Twitter page, labeling him wanted.

The warrant was issued after Nyakundi skipped attending a court session in a cybercrime case against KRA boss, who had been accused of violating COVID-19 quarantine rules.

Nyakundi had earlier been arrested for posting a tweet claiming that the KRA boss had traveled from overseas and failed to observe the mandatory 14-day quarantine.

He was released on a Sh200,000 cash bail but failed to appear for a plea hearing, leading to the issuance of the arrest warrant.

During the plea hearing, Nyakundi denied the charges against him and was released on a Sh50,000 cash bail with conditions that he refrain from making posts about COVID-19.

His case has drawn criticism from influential lawyer Cliff Ombeta, who accused the DCI of being malicious in their actions.

“Totally malicious. Courts are closed,” Ombeta commented on the DCI's post.

Nyakundi has also requested the prosecution to provide the postmortem results of the deceased KRA official who died from COVID-19 to help him understand the charges against him.
