Ken Walibora, a renowned author and veteran journalist, was a family man, but his private life remained largely unknown to those around him, including his close friend and colleague, Swaleh Mdoe.
Speaking to Mpasho in a tribute to the fallen hero, Mdoe revealed that he had never heard Walibora talk about his family.
"I was a close friend to him and even I had never heard him talking of a brother or a sister or even that he was married with children," Mdoe said.
Walibora was married to Anne Walibora and they had two beautiful daughters, Sheila and Katila. His family is based in the USA.
As a testament to his dedication to his craft, Walibora was known to apologize for speaking in English, even in professional settings, as Mdoe recalled during an award ceremony in Arusha.
