On April 22, 2020, Nairobi News reported that detectives from DCI's Homicide Division were following a new lead in the investigation into the death of prolific author Ken Walibora.

A source familiar with the investigation revealed that a dispute between Walibora and a local publisher had been established after analyzing his phone.

The dispute was reportedly about a book authored by the celebrated author, which had been published by the local publisher.

According to government pathologist Johansen Oduor, who conducted the postmortem, Walibora's body showed signs of severe injuries, including a deep knife wound on his right arm, facial injuries, and a blood clot in his head.

Dr. Oduor stated, 'He had a cracked jaw on his right side, his right hand was broken, and also he had a clot on his right side of the head, and he had lost two teeth all these are common with a motor vehicle accident.'

However, Dr. Oduor also noted that an injury on Walibora's right arm was not consistent with a motor vehicle accident, saying, 'He had a wound cut caused by a sharp knife on the space between his thumb and the index finger which is not familiar with motor vehicle accidents.'
