As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect small businesses globally, Kisii County government is taking steps to provide relief to its residents and enterprises.

On April 5th, Governor James Ongwae announced that the county would waive the 5% charge on late payment of single business permits, effective until June.

The county government is now proposing to suspend penalties on late payment of single business permits for the next three months, targeting foodstuffs, daily market dues, and public transport monthly payment of stickers.

Additionally, the county plans to suspend monthly levies charged on public transport providers to support the transport sector, which is experiencing a slump due to movement restrictions and curfew.

Operations along the food supply chain will not attract any levies, and daily market dues levied on vegetable vendors in some open-air markets will be suspended.

The proposals are set to be passed by the Kisii County Assembly this week, according to Speaker David Kombo.
