On April 22, 2020, Daniel Mcharo, a die-hard supporter of Bandari football club, called on the team to consider long-term contracts for its players.

According to Mcharo, Bandari needs to choose good and young players for long-term contracts to prevent losing them on free transfers.

He cited the example of former captain Felly Mulumba, who left the club on a free transfer to join Zimbabwe's top side Platinum FC after his contract expired.

Mcharo also mentioned Mohammed Katana, who joined a Belarus side on a free transfer last month, highlighting the issue of short-term contracts affecting Bandari.

However, Bandari responded by stating that they engage aged players on short-term contracts for less than two years, while youthful players are engaged for five-year contracts.

Mcharo argued that players on long-term contracts feel more needed and secure, with guaranteed money and big salaries, which is what players and their agents covet.

He added that players on long-term contracts are beneficial to the team as the club owns them and can restructure the deal if they intend to keep or trade them.

“Players commit themselves fully to the team as they are guaranteed money in the event of injury or underperformance,” Mcharo said.

Bandari has already engaged its first-choice goalkeeper, Farouk Shikhalo, on a long-term contract, which benefited the club when they sold him to Tanzania's Yanga for Sh 2 million.

The club also used Sh 400,000 to sign Burundian custodian Justin Ndikumana, who has perfectly fitted into the team.
