On April 20, 2020, Tedd Josiah, a respected Kenyan music producer, expressed his disappointment with the gengetone fraternity for producing music with extreme indecency.
Speaking in a video on his social media pages, Josiah condemned Ethic and other gengetone stars for promoting rape culture in their songs, calling them out for their lewd content.
As a father to a three-year-old, Josiah slammed Ethic group, accusing them of killing an already struggling industry and wondered why they were talking about defiling infants in their music.
He questioned them, saying, “Watu wanajiita my producer na wasani wa cut and paste na kutafuta fame talking about raping small girls and all that crap! We see u! Derick Boondox here’s my true honest response.”
He added that he understood creativity and freedom of speech but did not approve of the new stars' way of making music.
While Ethic have since issued an apology, Kenya Film Classification Board CEO Dr Ezekiel Mutua said it was not enough, and the group should face the full force of the law.
