This archive report was first published on 22 April 2020.

On April 22, 2020, the Director of Credit Reference Bureaus, Njoroge, issued a stern warning to lenders for abusing their powers, particularly in blacklisting borrowers for loans as low as Sh1,000.

According to reports, over 13 million Kenyans have been blacklisted for these small loans, a move that has been widely criticized.

Njoroge's warning comes as a relief to many Kenyans who have been affected by this practice, and it is hoped that it will bring about a change in the way lenders operate.
