On April 22, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta issued a stern warning to individuals who had escaped quarantine from the Kenya Medical Training College in Nairobi, Kenya.

Speaking at State House, Nairobi, the President stated that those who had escaped were known and would be forced to complete the mandatory 14-day isolation period.

The warning came after a video clip emerged showing a group of individuals jumping over the fence to escape the government-imposed quarantine.

“Even to those we saw escaping, do not think you have won, we shall find you, you will come back and will continue with quarantine, you will go back to the facility,” the President said.

As of April 22, 2020, 296 people had been infected with COVID-19, and 14 lives had been claimed, with over 1,000 individuals still under quarantine.

The President condemned the actions of the escapees, describing them as reckless and endangering the lives of Kenyans who were abiding by the law and protecting themselves against the disease.
