On April 22, 2020, Absa Bank Kenya PLC made a significant contribution to the fight against COVID-19 by announcing a donation of KSh 50 million to support the government's efforts.

The bank's contribution is part of the ongoing efforts by private sector companies and well-wishers to support the government's COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund.

Of the KSh 50 million, KSh 20 million will be channeled directly to the COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund to acquire Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and provide additional support to health workers.

Absa Bank is also contributing KSh 30 million to various initiatives designed to help individuals and businesses affected by the pandemic.

These initiatives include psychosocial support programs, business resilience training, and mentorship programs for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

Absa Kenya Managing Director, Mr. Jeremy Awori, emphasized the importance of collective action in minimizing the economic and social impact of the disease.

"We all can do something, however big or small, that will get us closer to winning the fight against this pandemic. Extending care to our caregivers – the medical workers – is one of the outstanding areas that require urgent support and this is the call we are responding to as an organisation," Mr. Awori said.
